Winter Workshop for Kids Thursday to January 3
Read Original Article »While school is out for the holidays, kids can participate in a nine-day winter workshop that features craft making, cookie baking, games and visits to a Christmas tree farm and an ice skating rink, among other activities. Watauga County Parks and Recreation presents the winter program from Thursday, December 22, to Tuesday, January 3, for kids 5 to 13 or in grades one through seven. The program is held on weekdays only from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Boone Optimist Club on State Farm Road. Registration is limited to 20 children and costs $170.

Breakfast, Fireside Stories with Mrs. Claus Friday
Read Original Article »On Friday, December 23, at 9:00 a.m., Buckeye Recreation Center hosts a free breakfast with Mrs. Claus, who will read stories to children by the fire. Also, last-minute “Letters to Santa” will be accepted. The breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, pastries, juice and coffee. Sparkling Celebration Benefits Avery Arts December 28
Read Original Article »The second annual Sparkling Celebration, a fundraising event to benefit the Avery Arts Council, takes place on Wednesday, December 28, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Tasting Room at Erick’s Cheese & Wine.
Erick’s Cheese & Wine is located in Grandfather Center beside the Banner Elk ABC Store. The tasting is free with a suggested minimum donation of $10. Sample a variety of sparkling wines and toast artists Pam Brewer and Gaylene Petcu, who are Avery County’s first recipients of the Regional Artist Project Grant.
