Have Lid, Will Slide
Snowdays are catalysts for invention - if you have nothing conventional to slip, slide or sled on, you can always find something laying around that will do the trick! Colleen Whittington (pictured), together with her friend Ayla Assed, their canine friend Sheva, practiced “snowlidding” on their day off Monday. The snowy reprieve from school was brief, however, as the weekend storm only closed schools for one day, and the snow was fading fast at lower elevations by mid-week.
Watauga County has closed a mere seven days so far this winter for inclement weather, and as of this week schools are scheduled to get out for summer break on May 30.
Candidate Filing Brisk in Watauga, Slow in Avery
Even before candidate filing officially began at noon on Monday, February 13, the Watauga County Board of Elections office was packed with candidates and supporters. Sixty-Bed Assisted Living Facility in the Works for Avery County
Though not all of the contingencies are finalized, plans are moving forward for a new 25,000 square foot, 60-bed assisted living facility to be constructed in Elk Park on Highway 19E across from the Cranberry School.
