As a celebration of the passionate, lunatic and forever-diehard skiers and snowboarders who are the backbone of High Country snow sports, Sugar Mountain has announced the second annual Extreme Ski and Snowboard Makeover Contest.
“It’s time to give back to the people who are really the foundation of winter sports,” said Kim Jochl, marketing director for Sugar Mountain. “These people deserve this.”
Following on the coattails of a successful 2005 contest, the 2006 version is already accepting applications and, with sponsors such as Burton, Head and Spyder, is shaping up to be quite a rewarding affair. The Extreme Ski and Snowboard Makeover Contest is an opportunity for Sugar Mountain Resort, along with its many sponsors, to say thank you to two lucky folks who carry “that feeling.”
“That feeling” is explained best by 2005 Extreme Makeover winner, Tim Young. “I am a 50-year-old who has never lost that feeling—you know it, when your heart pounds with anticipation as you carry your skis to where you will put them on for the first ride up the lift.”
Sugar Mountain is looking for more snow sport lovers who have “that feeling,” and will reward one lucky skier and one lucky snowboarder with an extreme makeover during SugarFest 2006 on December 16 and 17. The winning skier and snowboarder will be announced at Sugar Mountain’s annual Oktoberfest on October 14.
Sound too good to be true? Want to enter? Entrants may enter themselves or someone they know on the premise that they are in dire need of a winter makeover. Hopefuls must send a letter to Sugar Mountain explaining why they or someone they know deserves a ski or snowboard makeover, along with a photograph of the subject in his/her most recent ski or snowboard gear.
“It’s fun. It’s different,” added Jochl. “I’d like to think that this contest goes above and beyond to say thank you.”
Makeover winners will receive two nights’ lodging on Sugar Mountain, two full days of skiing and snowboarding at Sugar Mountain Resort, two days of ski or snowboard lessons and, of course, their own complete set of 2007 equipment and an entire ski or snowboard wardrobe to hit the slopes in style.
If you would like to enter, send a letter and photograph to Sugar Mountain Resort’s 2006 Extreme Ski and Snowboard Makeover, PO Box 369, Banner Elk, NC 28604. Entries are now being accepted and must be postmarked by September 1, 2006.
Sugar Mountain would like to thank the many sponsors who are making this event possible, including Sugar Mountain Accommodations Center and Realty, Ski Country Sports, High Country Media, Resort Real Estate Sales and Rentals, Alpine Ski Center, UVEX, WECR 102.3, Spyder, Village of Sugar Mountain, Burton and Head.
