Tim Wilkie, Sr., a member of the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Indian Band, will be the featured speaker this Saturday, February 25, when the Watauga County Library presents “Who are Native Americans?” Wilkie’s presentation begins at 1:00 p.m., and admission is free.
International Folk Music Duo to Perform at Ashe Civic Center February 25
A music repertoire usually reserved for world travelers will reverberate through the halls of the Ashe Civic Center on Saturday, February 25, as the international folk music duo, Simple Gifts, performs at 7:30 p.m. The duo, composed of musicians Linda Littleton and Karen Hirshon, play dozens of instruments as they take audience members around the globe on a fast-paced journey through an impressive variety of ethnic folk styles.
ASU Department of Theater & Dance Presents The Fantasticks Feb. 22-26
Sometimes there’s a big difference between falling in love and loving someone, yet it often takes many life lessons from a variety of characters to fully learn this concept. This month, ASU’s Department of Theater and Dance will provide one of those life lessons through a performance of the longest running off-Broadway musical of all time, Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt’s The Fantasticks.

Poet Tony Petrosky Reads from His Work March 2
Poet and editor Tony Petrosky will participates in the Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writers Series Thursday, March 2, at Appalachian State University by reading from his work at 7:30 p.m. in Plemmons Student Union’s Price Lake Room. Admission is free. Petrosky also will present a craft talk from 2:00 to 3:15 p.m. in the Price Lake Room.
Penland School: Open House, Half-Price Tuition, TV Feature
Penland School of Crafts will host its annual community open house on Saturday, March 4, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The afternoon will include demonstrations and hands-on activities in clay, hot glass, flame working, metals, paste paper, papermaking, textiles and iron.
