Jail House Rocks: New Facility Brings State-of-the-Art Operation to Boone
On Wednesday, March 8, the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office will move out of the current facility on Queen Street in downtown Boone and into the state-of-the-art Watauga County Law Enforcement Center located on Hodges Valley Road in Boone.
Taylor Calls Arrest Politically Motivated
By now word has gotten around the state of North Carolina that Robert E. “Nub” Taylor, clerk of Avery County Superior Court, was arrested, removed from office and suspended from his duties on the morning of February 20.
Who Has Filed?
The filing period for the 2006 election ended on Tuesday, February 28. Since last week, the only additional filer in Watauga County was Lee Warren for the Board of Education.

High Country United Way Exceed 2006 Fundraising Goal
The announcement came this week: 2005-06 was a record year for giving to the High Country United Way. The magic number, the culmination of a fundraising campaign that began in fall 2005 and continued through the end of January, is $406,520—a total that exceeds the High Country United Way’s projected goal of $395,600 by $10,920.
Local Hospitals Offer Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs
The certified cardiac rehabilitation program at Cannon Memorial Hospital and Watauga Medical Center offers education, exercise and support to patients with coronary artery disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Women’s Leadership Conference This Saturday
The 2006 Women’s Leadership Conference will take place this Saturday, March 4, in the Plemmons Student Union on the campus of ASU. he conference, which usually draws between 100 and 200 women, will begin at noon and end at 6:30 p.m.
