It was, dare we say it, a truly perfect day. One of those days that happens only a few times a year, and only in the mountains, when the temperature is exactly right -- not too hot, not too cold. The sun warms you deliciously and not too much, and the shade provides just the right amount of cool. And the sky, oh how to describe the sky? A blue so deep, so pure, you keep looking up to prove to yourself that it’s real; that yes, mother nature can create a color so beautiful it makes your heart ache. There was not a cloud in sight, not even the hint of a cloud, only the mountains standing proudly against the sky and painted with a fresh coat of green.
So what if it happened during the week, when most of us were at work? If you ventured out Tuesday afternoon around 5 p.m., you caught the best part of the day, with the red bricks of downtown Boone standing in a gorgeous color contrast to the late afternoon sky.
Did we ever mention we love living in the mountains?

One of the biggest benefits of living in the High Country is our year-round access to the woods. Just down the road from wherever you live are miles and miles and miles of hiking trails that cross creeks, lead to waterfalls, wind through rhododendron thickets, pass through hemlock and hardwood forests, snake under and over rock outcroppings older than time and offer unparalleled views of the Blue Ridge.
