Summer officially began in the High Country at 8:26 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21 – commonly known as the Summer Solstice. The endless blue skies of the mountains actually failed to produce any grey clouds or precipitation on Tuesday and Wednesday, so High Country residents actually got to see proof of this phenomenon take place.
On Wednesday, June 21, the sun rose at 6:10 a.m., set at 8:47 p.m. and the day boasted 15 hours and 38 minutes of visible light. On Thursday, June 22, the length of day will decrease by two seconds, and the days will increasingly get shorter until the Winter Solstice.
Dr. Ray Russell predicts that our afternoon thunderstorm chances will be slim for the next few days, but the region’s typical summer wet weather pattern will start again this weekend.
