It’s Hot, Hot, Hot Out There!

Remember when it was cold last winter? That was nice. They say the grass is always greener on the other side, but in the case of the last few weeks of just-below record heat, cool breezes have never felt so welcome. And don’t forget a refreshing plunge into the local pool! Here, resourceful residents escape the summer heat wave by taking a dip in the Blowing Rock Pool while the High Country endured temperatures over 86 degrees. The Blowing Rock Pool will be open through Labor Day to assist in cooling residents off—it’s open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the summer oasis is $2 for children under twelve, $3 for adults aged 12 to 54 and $2 for those aged 55 and over. Photo by Ken Ketchie
