High Country Cotillion Now Accepting Spring Registration

Spring Cotillion Events

Here’s a look ahead at activities planned for spring cotillion.

• Thursday, March 1, A Night To Remember: Get ready to make new friends and hang out with old ones at cotillion’s first round of dancing and socializing. This will be a night to remember, at least the names of your new partners and friends.

• Thursday, March 8, Rock Around the Clock Sock Hop: Wear your best dancing socks  to shake, rattle and roll! Enjoy the music both old and new.

• Thursday, March 22, The Lion and the Lamb Spring Jam: Celebrate the new spring season at cotillion’s first formal dance. Let your dance skills and your new friendships blossom!

• Thursday, March 29, Final Four March Madness Hoop-la: It’s Final Four basketball hoops time, and cotillion will celebrate the end of the 2007 ASU and WHS basketball seasons and prepare to cheer for the national championship game.

• Thursday, April 5, Carolina Beach Party: It may still be cold outside, but it’s Carolina Beach Party night at the Broyhill Inn. The beach party is cotillion’s kickoff to Spring Break 2007!

• Saturday, April 21, Abbey Road Ball: Cotillion’s second formal event celebrates the music of the Beatles and the British Empire. Put on your finest dancing duds and prepare for a Great (Britain) evening!

• Saturday, April 28, The High Country Cotillion Ball: The final event of the spring season will be a grand one. Students in grades 5 though 6 will meet at their normal time. Students in grades 7 through 12 will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for an evening of dinner and dancing and an opportunity to hang out with friends and great guests of honor. So put on your best clothes and prepare for fun! Parents of 7th to 12th graders are invited to attend for the first half hour to take a trip around the dance floor with your young lady or gentlemen.

Story by Blair O’Briant

High Country Cotillion is now accepting registration for its spring session, running from Thursday, March 1, to Saturday, April 28.

The program will introduce Watauga students in grades 5 through 12 to youth from all over the High Country in a safe and fun environment.

High Country Cotillion’s mission is to prepare students for life beyond the classroom; to train them in life skills for high school, college and careers; and to give them confidence in social situations. Students will have a great time at a series of eight social parties held at the Broyhill Inn on the ASU campus.

Cotillion leaders will discuss appropriate dress for the business world and social occasions, as well as respect, consideration, civility and the importance of eye contact and a firm handshake. Participants will also learn skills such as basic dining etiquette and the importance of punctuality.

The program will promote healthy social interaction between girls and boys and strive for an equal number in each class so that students can partner-dance with every partner available. Cotillion also offers a rare opportunity for parents to observe and influence their child’s behavior in preparation for future dating years.

Cotillion helps to turn girls and boys into young ladies and gentlemen with good manners and leadership skills. Learning key social skills helps to build confidence so young adults become successful business and family leaders.

Once classes are filled, there will be a waiting list for the spring session. For more information, or to register for High Country Cotillion, call Sharon and Ray Carlton at 828-297-3133 or email at 3carlton@gte.net.
