The Watauga Storm boys’ u-13/7th grade basketball team won the 2007 Alpha Natural Resources Castlewood (Va.) Classic on Sunday, January 14. The Storm opened the tournament by defeating the Honaker Va. Tigers 42-21. All eight players scored, led by Jake Pifer with 10 points. Brian Bolster added 8 points, Clint Trivette and Matt Proffitt chipped in with 6 points apiece and Konal Hall added 4 points.
The Storm then defeated Grundy Va. 38-36 as Jake Pifer scored with 10 seconds left. Proffit led the Storm with 12 points and 9 rebounds, followed by Bolster with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Ethan Poulos added 4 assists with 2 steals.
The Storm defeated the Bristol Va. Bearcats 29-20 to advance to the championship game. The Storm scored the last 9 points to end the game, and Trivette scored all 6 of his points in the fourth quarter. Proffit once again led the Storm with 12 points and 4 steals and Ethan Greene added 5 rebounds and 1 steal.
The Storm once again defeated the Bearcats 33-23 to secure the championship. Pifer led the Storm with 14 points, Trivette added 10 points and Alex Fox added 6 rebounds, 5 steals. Proffitt led the team with 10 rebounds. Stephen Poulos and George Fox coach the team.
These members of the Watauga Storm u-13/7th grade basketball team brought home a trophy last Sunday.
