After finishing amazing college softball careers, two Lady Bobcats won’t be leaving the diamond anytime soon. Greta Turner and Hannah Morgan have both accepted coaching positions in Avery County—Turner at Lees-McRae and Morgan at Avery High.
Turner is a four-year letter winner and former team captain who played first base and hit .317 as a senior for the team that she helped build into a conference contender. Turner is the first assistant coach for the Lady Bobcats team. She will coach pitching and catching and direct the hitting instruction. She will also assist on the base paths with team defense and offense, as well as various other coaching duties.
Turner is originally from Brown Summit, N.C., and will graduate with a degree in early education this year. She is currently student teaching in Avery County.
Like Turner, Morgan wasn’t ready to end her softball career and is moving to Avery High to coach softball.
While playing for the Bobcats, Morgan was the team leader in both the 04-05 and the 05-06 seasons. She was selected first team All-CVAC pitcher in 2006 and a candidate as Conference Player of the Year in 2006. In the 04-05 season, Morgan led the conference in strikeouts for the regular season, and she can hit too. She had six homeruns during her senior year, finishing with a 1.97 ERA on top of 131.2 strikeouts in 123 innings pitched.
Morgan is from Garner, N.C., and will receive her degree in early education this spring. She is currently teaching at Freedom Trail Elementary School.
