Show Takes Place Friday, February 9
On Friday, February 9, the Watauga High School Choral Department will present Watauga’s Got Talent, a special student talent show. The show will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Watauga High School auditorium.
“We’re going to have a really good show,” said event organizer and WHS Choral Director Lisa Combs.
According to Combs, Watauga’s Got Talent will feature 19 acts showcasing the unique performing arts talents of a variety WHS students. The show will also serve as a fundraiser to send a group of 15 WHS choral students to New York to perform at Carnegie Hall this April.
Attendees will have the chance to win eight different baskets full of wonderful prizes and concessions by purchasing raffle tickets. The proceeds from the raffle will also help fund the trip.
The advanced choral students, ranging in age from 9th to 12th grade, have been practicing after school for the trip since the fall. The students will spend four days in New York City seeing the sights and participating in daily rehearsing.
On the final day, the group will perform as part of a 200-person high school choir at Carnegie Hall, one of the most famous venues in the world.
“It’s quite an ordeal because it is quite an expensive trip,” said Combs.
Though the group has traveled by bus in previous years, the students will make their way to the Big Apple by plane this year after discovering that prices for air travel were just as efficient.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at Boone Drug at New Market, Deerfield and Blowing Rock.
