Story by Blair O’Briant
Hearts of Hospitality House is sponsoring the twelfth annual Valentine Ball to benefit the Hospitality House of Boone. The event will be held Saturday, February 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at ASU’s Broyhill Inn in the Helen Powers Grand Hall. The Valentine Ball includes dinner and a silent auction with a wide variety of items. Guests will dance to the music of the Todd Wright Band.
Tickets for the ball are $100 per person and are available until Thursday, February 1, at High Country Bank in New Market Center. All proceeds benefit the Hospitality House of Boone.
The Hospitality House of Boone is an emergency shelter located on King Street that assists the community’s homeless population. It is a transitional shelter that works with people who have trouble staying in permanent housing and the disabled.
The shelter operates the Bread of Life Food Program, supported by people in the community who donate hot meals every evening.
The Hospitality House of Boone also provides the WeCAN program that works to prevent homelessness by providing crisis help for rent and electric bills.
Rose Bridgeman of Hospitality House said a portion of the proceeds will go to rebuilding a washed-out parking lot at one of the facilities outside Boone.
As the only shelter in the seven surrounding counties, Hospitality House of Boone has recently been short on funding. Bridgeman said the shelter has had to turn people away due to the high volume of people in need.
