No wimps or whiners! That’s the motto for the inaugural High Country Disc Golf Charity ICE BOWL Tournament to be held Saturday, February 17, starting at 9:00 a.m.
With extreme cold temperatures almost a given for any outdoor activity planned in the High Country winter months, the ICE BOWL will take place in whatever kind of weather—snow, ice or rain—Mother Nature bestows on the region, so participants are asked to dress warmly.
The mission behind the 2007 ICE BOWL is to raise as much money as possible for the Ashe County Partnership for Children and to have fun while playing disc golf at the new Ashe County Disc Golf Course, located at Ashe County Park in West Jefferson. A portion of every entry fee will benefit the Ashe County Partnership for Children.
The 2007 ICE BOWL will consist of two rounds. The first round is nine holes played by a single person. Each person will be assigned to a division—pro, advanced, intermediate, recreational, women, seniors or kids—so s/he is competing against people with similar skills. The second round is 18 holes and will be played as random draw doubles with the best shot counted.
Pro and advanced players will play from the long tees for both rounds and everyone else will play from the short tees. Prizes and certificates will be awarded to each division winner in round one and to each of the top three teams in round two. The overall best player from both rounds combined will receive an award and awards will also be presented for the most money raised, farthest traveled and to one random person.
The entry cost is $15 per person, with $10 of the fee going to charity. All participants will receive an ICE BOWL-stamped DX INNOVA disc, a certificate of participation and one free throw during the Freeze Your Throw Off Charity Rally. The Freeze Your Throw Off Charity Rally will feature a chance to win several prizes including an INNOVA practice basket. Additional throws during the rally will cost $1 each or participants can pay $20 to get $25.
On-site registration is from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Ashe County Park, the players’ meeting is at 10:15 a.m. and the first tee off is at 10:30 a.m. Lunch, with food provided by Pizza Hut, follows completion of the first round. Awards and prizes will be given out after the second round.
The 2007 ICE BOWL is being promoted and directed by Todd and Wendy Patoprsty.
