Getting Carded
Next Wednesday is Valentine’s Day, and Amy’s Hallmark Shop in Boone Mall is ready, with a big selection of cards and gifts. A full week before the big day, Roxanne Hall selected cards for her loved ones at the shop, and her purchases will joing the average 180 million Valentine’s Day cards exchanged annually—a number that doesn’t include the packaged cards kids exchange at school. Parents account for about 40 percent of Valentine card purchases according to Hallmark.

How To Avoid the Scammer’s Clutches -
One thing North Carolina doesn’t lack is scam artists. Just this week, Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman issued an alert about bogus fundraising calls from people who identify themselves as deputies and say they’re raising money for local deputies. Those calls are fake, so don’t give the callers any money. [full story]
