High School and College Students Invited To Apply
The Blowing Rock Stage Company is seeking qualified applicants for its 2007 Summer Intern/Apprentice Program.
“This is an invaluable opportunity for any serious drama student who is seeking a career in the theatre industry,” said Kenneth Kay, producing artistic director of the Blowing Rock Stage Company. “Interns will participate in a ‘real world’ theatre environment working with and learning from experienced theatre professionals.”
An apprentice is anyone who is in still in high school or recently graduated but not yet enrolled college. An intern is anyone who is currently enrolled in college or has completed at least one full year of study at the college level.
Applicants must be at least 16 years old, have a minimum of three months related theatre experience, have local housing and possess reliable transportation.
This summer-long professional training program—conducted at the new Hayes Performing Arts Center—will provide interns a state-of-the-art venue in which to pursue their craft. The program officially begins on May 15 and will conclude on September 2. Scheduling is somewhat flexible for those applicants with prior conflicts during those dates.
Intern/apprentice duties include will rotate through all theatre departments, including costumes, lights, properties, electrics, carpentry, sound, box office and stage management. Interns will also be responsible for various crew assignments, including operating the sound or lights board and/or the fly system.
Interns and apprentices will also have several main-stage performance opportunities this summer. Roles are available in Moses Cone: The Denim King, Deathtrap, and God’s Favorite. Interns and apprentices will also be assigned as understudies for all main-stage productions.
Those who meet certain requirements will also be eligible to earn points toward membership in Actors’ Equity Association, the national union of professional actors and stage managers.
