A series of information sessions and programs will be held at Appalachian State University from Monday, February 26, to Thursday, March 1, as part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week. All the programs are free and open to the public.
The activities are sponsored by Appalachian’s Counseling and Psychological Services Center, an office in the Division of Student Development. The theme of the week is Get Real Expectations, Get Real Role Models, Get Real! In addition to the programs, a contact table in Plemmons Student Union will have information about eating disorders.

What: Diets: What Works, What Doesn’t and Why— Supplements, carbs, weight loss promises—learn what it’s all about and how to eat healthy.

What: The Skinny on America’s Obsession with Thinness—View Jean Kilbourne’s Killing Us Softly 3, meet a Miss North Carolina Pageant contestant and chat with a fashion expert as participants explore their definition of beauty and the impact of today’s ads, models, and the media on body image.
