Story by Ron Fitzwater
The Banner Elk Board of Adjustment met Monday to consider approval of an application for a planned commercial development on property located at the corner of Orchard Lane and the Apple Hill Parkway. The multi-level structure will provide office and limited retail space.
Applicants Robert and Barbara Ingalls and their engineers were in attendance to address questions from the board and concerned citizens in connection with the property.
No one objected to the development, but lengthy discussions concerned sidewalk construction, water runoff issues and permissible uses for the site. Some of the permissible uses the board agreed to allow are medical offices, educational services, electronics repair and office supply and equipment among others. The board leaves open the option for the developer to petition, at a later date, to lift agreed upon exclusions. The board approved the application for phase one of the project.
