What would Easter be without Easter egg hunts? There’s no need to find out because literally thousands of eggs are waiting to be discovered at the slew of great egg hunting events happening throughout the High County.
Date: Saturday, March 24
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Location: Davant Field, Blowing Rock
Cost: Free
Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation will host the annual Golden Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 24. An egg hunt for toddlers to 5 years old will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Davant Field. Games for all begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Rotary Pavilion next to the ball field. The egg hunt for children ages 6 to 10 at Broyhill Park begins at 11:00 a.m. For more info, call 828-295-5222.

Location: Watauga County Library, Jones House
Cost: Free
On Saturday, March 31, at 11:00 a.m., the Downtown Boone Development Association, the Jones House Community Center and the Watauga County Public Library, in conjunction with local business sponsors, will hold the annual Easter Egg-Stravaganza at the Watauga County Library.
Storytelling, arts and crafts will entertain the children until 11:30 a.m., followed by the Easter Egg Hunt at noon at the Jones House. Children up to the age of 10 will hunt for candy filled-eggs and “golden eggs” that can be traded for prizes from area merchants. In case of bad weather, kids can enjoy a surprise Easter egg pull at the Watauga County Public Library from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The decision will be made by 9:00 a.m. on the day of the event and will be announced on WATA. On Saturday, April 7, the National Park Service will host the 4th Annual Egg Scramble on the Moses Cone Manor House lawn. The event will include an egg hunt for children ages 2 to 11, and a scavenger hunt and an egg toss to challenge older children. Age categories will be separated so that all children will be able to have fun. Three drawings for limited-edition ornaments will be held throughout the day. Location: Avery High School Football & Baseball Fields

This event has taken place in the rain, the snow and the sunshine every year for nearly 20 years and will be held once again at the Avery High School football and baseball fields on Saturday, April 7. The Easter Bunny will be on hand, after hiding 1,500 eggs, to give out candy and have pictures made with the children. The hunt begins at noon, so participants are advised to arrive at least 15 minutes early. First through third place prizes will be awarded to hunters in each of the three age categories and an overall grand prize will be presented to the child who finds the most eggs. On Saturday, April 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Spruce Pine and Abundant Life Outreach will host the Springfest Eggstravaganza—the region’s largest Easter egg hunt—at Mitchell County High School. Children will hunt for more than 30,000 eggs while locals young and old can enjoy inflatable rides, BMX stunt riders, face painting and prizes for the kids. The event is free to the public. On Saturday, April 7, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Ashe County Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church, will sponsor the annual Easter egg hunt at Ashe County Park, located off Highway 221 Business in West Jefferson. Hunting parties will be separated into three groups: 3 to 5 year olds, 6 to 8 year olds and 9 to 12 year olds. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 336-982-9828.
