Avery Foundation Looking For Grant Applications

by April 20

The Avery Community Foundation (ACF) is encouraging charitable organizations to apply for financial support for local projects. Applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, April 20.

The ACF, an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation, has served Avery County since 1997. The foundation currently manages ten endowments for various nonprofit organizations, individuals, and a scholarship fund that together have an asset base of more than $330,000.

The foundation directs an unrestricted grant-making fund, the Avery Legacy Fund, that grants monies to nonprofit organizations in Avery County. The funds in this endowment have been locally raised and locally spent.

Communities, no matter how large or small, have many different needs various charities can address. To foster the sense of community in charitable giving, charities known as community foundations can give donors the flexibility to pinpoint their philanthropic efforts on whatever needs their community may have.

Applications are available at the Morrison Library in Newland and the offices of Brown & Beam CPAs at the Shoppes of Tynecastle. Foundation President Tommy Burleson urges county residents to contact him or any member of the board to discuss the foundation and its services.
