If the way to a person’s heart is through his or her stomach, it should also be noted that the stomach is an equally effective route to the wallet.
On Saturday, March 25, the Kiwanis Club of Boone will hold their 22nd annual Pancake Breakfast. The event will take place from 7:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Watauga High School cafeteria.
Funds raised at the breakfast will be distributed among a number of Kiwanis causes throughout the year, including the Terrific Kids Program, Santa’s Toy Box, NC Safe Kids and the annual scholarship fund for Watauga High School.
“This is basically to replenish our general fund,” said organizer and Kiwanis member George Brudzinski.
At a bargain price of $6 for adults and $3 for children, the all-you-can-eat breakfast will include the legendary Kiwanis pancakes, sausage, bacon, juices and a variety of syrups.
“Depending on the weather, we have four to five hundred people that join us for breakfast every year,” said Brudzinski. “It’s turned into a big social event where folks can meet and talk and have breakfast. We just have a good time.”
In addition to the never-ending supply of pancakes, the Mountain Alliance will host its 11th annual silent auction from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Items up for bid will be displayed in the cafeteria. Each year the auction raises thousands of dollars for the program from items such as incredible rental properties and gift certificates for services and merchandise donated from local businesses and individuals.
“We kind of do this in conjunction with each other and it helps both of us,” said Brudzinski.
The Mountain Alliance is a youth-oriented program that seeks to build leadership skills through service, adventure and community. Funding from this year’s auction will help fund youth leadership development programs, as well as service learning and adventure activities.
