Watauga Red Cross Hosts Second Annual Paint The Town Red

Charity Event Takes Place Friday, March 30

Story by David Brewer

Each year since 1943, the standing president of the United States has proclaimed March to be American Red Cross Month across the nation. Originated during World War II to increase public support for the war and boost troop enlistment, the month-long celebration has endured for decades by promoting thousands of Red Cross volunteers and their ceaseless humanitarian efforts throughout the world.

On Friday, March 30, the Watauga Chapter of the American Red Cross invites the public to join them in marking the celebratory month with the second annual Paint The Town Red benefit party at Wildflower restaurant in Boone. The party starts at 7:00 p.m.

For $60 per person, Red Cross benefactors can dance the night away to live music provided by Laditude’s Ken and Amy LaDeroute, enjoy heavy hors d’oeurves from Wildflower and place their bids at a silent auction throughout the night. There will be a cash bar at the event.

Dress for the affair, according to Sweet, is “mountain casual or mountain formal. All proceeds from Paint The Town Red will be spent locally on Red Cross operations in the High Country.

With last year’s event selling out, patrons are encouraged to secure their reservations prior to the event by calling local Red Cross Director and event organizer Sonny Sweet at 828-264-8226.
