The Boone Service League will present an afternoon of fashion, food and shopping on Saturday, April 21. The League’s annual charity gala will be held at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The theme of this year’s event is Celebrating Fifty Years of Service to the High Country. The gala will spotlight an assortment of both casual and fine fashions from our area stores.
Show Chair Susan Phipps said, “This year we are organizing the show a bit differently. The entire first half will spotlight casual clothing, and the second half of the show will highlight more sophisticated clothing lines.”
Mayor Loretta Clawson, ASU Chancellor Kenneth Peacock and United Way Director Jenny Miller are just a few of the High Country’s celebrities who have volunteered their time to model for the event.
Stores will include South’s Specialty Clothiers, Belk, 100 West Union, Mast General Store, Did Someone Say Party?, The Gap, Worth Collections (shown by appointment), Gladiola Girls, University Bookstore, J.W. Tweeds, Almost Rodeo Drive and Monkee’s. Media personality Diane Fountain will emcee this year’s event.
The silent auction begins at 10:30 a.m. with a raffle. More than 300 items and services from the High Country and beyond will be up for grabs at this year’s auction. Participants will also bid on numerous gift certificates and items ranging from restaurant dinners and hotel stays to carpet cleaning services and canoe trips. The theme of this year’s raffle is Toasting 50 Years of Service.
The gala is Boone Service League’s largest fundraiser. At the 2006 event, the League raised more than $17,000 for many of the area’s organizations and individuals in need. The League maintains scholarship programs for middle and high school students and rising college freshmen each year. The organization also provides assistance for general operating funds and special projects for local nonprofit organizations that operate in the High Country.
The success of this event would not be possible without all of the supporters who donate to the event. Hearts of the Boone Service League who donated greater than $700 include Red Onion Café, Headwater Enterprises, Ginn Laurelmor Resort, Worth, Deer Valley Racquet Club, Belk, Tanger Outlet Stores, Mast Farm Inn, Emily Wilson-Party Lite, Julie Hodge-Southern Living at Home, Broyhill Inn & Conference Center, Watauga Democrat, All About Women magazine and Kincaid Furniture Co. Outlet.
Friends of the Boone Service League who donated $300 to $699, include Di Santi Watson Capua & Wilson, Appalachian Ski Mountain, ASU Arts & Cultural Programs, Chick-fil-a, Arbonne International, Sew Bee It, Savory Thymes, Emily Angle Photography, Wachovia Bank, Boone Drugs Inc., Katie Langley Photography, RBC Centura, High Country Bank, Jonathon Burton Photography, West Glow Spa, Coke Whitworth Photography, Linville Ridge Country Club, Hawksnest Ski Resort, Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff and Lavender Fields.
