Focus on Men’s Health: Stay in the Game

Interactive Program Takes Place April 21

Appalachian Regional Healthcare System has joined forces with many local professionals and businesses for Stay in the Game, a day filled with activities, screenings and education all about men and issues that affect men. Stay in the Game is happening Saturday, April 21, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Wellness Center.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 100 percent more women than men actually take action for their health and visit their doctor for annual examinations and preventive screenings. Gentlemen, step up to the plate and take action for your health.  Bring a friend! There will be plenty to do and see in one convenient stop.

Men of all ages are encouraged to attend. Activities include the following:

• Blood pressure screenings

• Grilling demonstrations

• Kayaking lessons with Don Wood

• Prostate and colon cancer education

• Cars and trucks on display from Boone Ford Lincoln Mercury and Mack Brown Chevrolet

• Mini swing golf clinic with Tom Adams of the Boone Golf Club

• Chair massages with Nancy Green of The Massage Muse

• Proper boot fitting demonstrations by The Mast General Store

• Fitness assessments by Wellness Center staff

• Body mass index checks by Be Active

• Discussion of the dangers of drinking and driving with a toxicity simulation by the N.C. Highway Patrol

• Skin cancer screenings from the waist up by Dr. Jill Moore of Boone Dermatology

• Glaucoma screenings by Dr. Jeffrey Sutton of Family Eye Care Center

• Information on depression and anxiety from Dr. Eric Hatch

• Basic hearing screenings by Roxanne Hall PA-C and Dr. Mark Nenow of Blue Ridge Ear Nose and Throat

• Info on back health and proper back care from Matt Ware of Blue Ridge Physical Therapy

• Discussion of bike and helmet safety and the health benefits of biking from Mike Boone of Magic Cycles

• Door prizes and more!

Men, it’s time to take action for your health. Bring your family and friends to this fun, interactive, and educational event that will have something for everyone to enjoy.
