Help Clean Boone April 21 and Get an Earth Day T-Shirt

Governor Mike Easley has issued a proclamation designating April 14 to April 30 as the statewide Litter Sweep. In conjunction with this campaign and Earth Day Celebration, the Town of Boone will hold Boone Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 21. The rain date is Saturday, April 28.

Cleanup Day is a perfect time for Adopt-A-Street and Adopt-A-Stream organizations, as well as other interested parties, to volunteer their time to help clean up litter from the town’s streets.

On Cleanup Day, participants can stop by the Town of Boone Public Works Center located at 321 East King Street from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to pick up cleanup supplies or pick them up ahead of time. Stop by the Public Works Center from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. for refreshments and to share the day’s experiences.

Also, in recognition of Earth Day and as a token of the town’s appreciation, the Town of Boone will give out free Earth Day T-shirts while supplies last to those who participate.

Plus, the town will award monetary prizes for the most unusual litter found within the town limits on Cleanup Day. To enter the contest, take the unusual litter you’ve found to Public Works on Saturday, April 21.

All adopting organizations and residents are encouraged to participate in cleaning up Boone on April 21 or any time during the Litter Sweep campaign between April 14 and April 28.

Residents who participate by cleaning up around their property can the Public Works Department for additional free curbside junk or yard debris pickup during this two-week campaign.
