Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada Presents Amadeus, The Ballet April 24

Story by Celeste von Mangan

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart produced more than 600 compositions in his lifetime before dying suddenly at the age of 35. On Tuesday, April 24, the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada will present Amadeus, the Ballet, at the Ashe Civic Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. The ballet is a full-length production weaving the life of Mozart through his music, with the performance portraying his isolation by a society that accepted his musical work, but did not accept him as a composer.

Amadeus, the Ballet is also an interpretation of the rivalry between Mozart and the composer Antonio Salieri—two men who were opposites in every way except one: they both had an obsession to create brilliant music.

Ukrainian native Igor Dobrovolskiy conceived Amadeus, the Ballet and also serves as artistic director and choreographer of Amadeus and of the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada.

The Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada is a professional touring company based on the east coast of Canada. Artists in the company are classically trained soloists from Canada and around the world. The 2006-07 season is the company’s inaugural United States tour and the company has presented a record-breaking 45 performances in seven provinces besides performances in the southern United States and Belgium. The company’s objective is to create original productions that blend theatre, music and choreographic artistry.

Tickets are on sale now at the Ashe County Arts Council and cost $8 for adults and $5 for students.
