The Turchin Center announces a special lecture based on the popular exhibition The Graphic Imperative: International Posters for Peace, Social Justice and the Environment 1965-2005 on Friday, April 20, at 6:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall.
Elizabeth Resnick, one of the three curators of the exhibition, will visit Boone to present a slide talk on the philosophy behind the organization of The Graphic Imperative. She will also speak to how the show encourages and empowers young designers and design students to create meaningful work. Following the lecture, guests are invited to participate in a question and answer session with the curator in the gallery.
Elizabeth Resnick is an associate professor and the chair of the Communication Design Department at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, Mass. She holds a B.F.A. and M.F.A. in graphic design from the Rhode Island School of Design.
The Graphic Imperative: International Posters for Peace, Social Justice and the Environment 1965-2005 exhibition is a select retrospective of 40 years of international sociopolitical posters. Themes include dissent, liberation, racism, sexism, human rights, civil rights, environmental and health concerns, AIDS, war, literacy and tolerance, collectively providing a window to an age of great change. Focusing on the issues of our turbulent times, these posters endeavor to show the social, political and aesthetic concerns of many cultures in a single exhibition through delineating themes and contrasting political realities. Elizabeth Resnick, Chaz Maviyane-Davies and Frank Baseman organized the exhibition in collaboration with the Massachusetts College of Art, and the Massachusetts College of Art Foundation and Philadelphia University provided additional support.
The Turchin Center is located at 423 West King Street in Boone. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday and Saturday, and 12:000 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The center is closed Sunday and Monday and observes all university holidays. No admission is charged, although donations are gratefully accepted.
