The Appalachian Regional Development Institute's annual leadership summit will be held at ASU’s Rosen Concert Hall auditorium on Monday, June 11. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the program begins at 8:30, concluding at 4:30 p.m. Prior to May 31, the $60 registration fee includes lunch. At the door, the registration fee will be $60 but will not include lunch.
The conference theme is Doing Our Part: The Role of North Carolina's Rural Public Universities in Economic Transformation, and the conference is being held in conjunction with the University of North Carolina's five rural universities: Appalachian State, East Carolina, Elizabeth City State, UNC-Pembroke and Western Carolina.
This statewide conference will highlight the special and unique challenges, responsibilities and opportunities that North Carolina's rural public universities face in contributing to the goal of economic transformation.
Confirmed speakers include Billy Ray Hall, president of the NC Rural Economic Development Center;
James T. Fain, III, secretary of the NC Department of Commerce; Valeria L. Lee, president of the Golden LEAF Foundation;
Judith Cone, vice president of Ewing Marion Kauffman; and Eva Klein, founder and president of Eva Klein & Associates, Ltd. Jim W. Phillips, Jr., chair of the UNC Board of Governors, will serve as moderator.
In addition to these prominent speakers, the chancellors from all five rural public university campuses have agreed to attend and participate in the summit and share their ideas and thoughts with what is expected to be a large statewide audience of businesspeople, economic developers, educators, media and public officials.
