Calling all parents and children! You are invited to attend the inaugural Health and Fun for the Young Festival— a day of fun and education—at Blowing Rock Hospital on Saturday, June 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Local agencies, as well as hospital personnel, will provide education on topics that promote a healthy lifestyle, such as healthy snacks and beverages to use for school, fun exercises for children, children’s diabetes, safety in the home and asthma in children, just to name a few. Better brush your teeth because folks from the dental offices of Drs. Mayhew, Conn, Scheffler and Hardaway will be at the festival promoting good dental hygiene.
Of course, what festival would be complete without fun games to play? Airwalk, Inc. as well as J.U.M.P, Inc. will provide airwalks for the children. Blowing Rock celebrity Glenn Bolick will keep the children entertained with his one-man show and singing. Blowing Rock Hospital could not resist having Sparky the Dog attend to promote fire safety for children. The D.A.R.E officers will be doing fingerprint identification cards with the children, as well as advocating to keep children safe from and informed about drugs.
Driving in will be Myrtle the Turtle, the Winebago Learning Center from The Children’s Council. Mobile Myrtle has a variety of activities, games and books. Mr. Bill, the Belgian draft horse from Chadi Farms in Valle Crucis, will give the children wagon rides around the hospital. Chadi Farms will also provide a small petting zoo of miniature horses and a few friendly chickens to pet and pick up. Clogging up a storm will be Stars Express, along with a clown show and face painting.
Blowing Rock Hospital welcomes everyone to attend this exciting event. Parking will be at the hospital, the budget box, the Laurelmont building, Blowing Rock Elementary School and St. Mary’s church. Transportation from remote sites will be provided. In case of bad weather, the event will be rescheduled for June 9.
