Lunch and Learn for
Mountain Photography Competition May 16

Story by Celeste von Mangan

You still have time to view the entries and winners of the fourth annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts. The exhibit began on March 2, and will continue through June 2. And if you want to do more than simply look at the photographs, plan to attend the Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, May 16, from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m.

Participants are invited to bring a bag lunch and in an informal and enjoyable setting, discuss the photographs with the competition’s jurors. This year’s jurors included Richard Rapfogel, Troy Tuttle and Brook Greene who evaluated the photographers’ composition, technique, content, originality and effectiveness in conveying the character of the Southern Appalachian region and selected one winner and one special mention in six categories: adventure, Blue Ridge Parkway, culture, environment, flora/fauna and landscape

The winners are featured in the spring issue of High Country Magazine, currently available at High Country Press distribution points.

The Lunch and Learn program is free and open to the public. For more info, call 828-262-3017.
