Blue Ridge Equestrian 4-H Now Accepting Members for Summer Season…

The Blue Ridge Equestrian 4-H team meets every other Thursday night from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Membership is free, and ages 8 to 19 are welcome to attend. Members do crafts and work with horses to learn about the animals. Members with their own horses are welcome to be a part of the show team, riding English, Western and Saddle Seat and competing in various competitions across the state. The members also take group trail rides and camping trips. Every September, the group holds its own horse show at the Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve in Blowing Rock. 10U AAA Mountain RockHounds Adding to Fall Travel Team…

The 10U AAA Mountain RockHounds are interested in adding to their roster for their 11U team in Fall 2007. Children are eligible only if they will not be 12 years old by May 1, 2008. Turchin Saturday Session: March of the Penguins or How to Make One Into a Hundred Saturday…

Did you ever wish Mario was a rubber stamp? What if he were the size of a pencil eraser? In this workshop, children ages 8 to 13 can make rubber stamps and use additional rubber stamps to make stories and designs. The workshop will include monoprinting and cork printing. Kids Fishing Day Saturday…

The High Country Sportsmen Coalition, along with the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, will host the 10th Annual Kids Fishing and Jakes Day on Saturday, June 16. The event is for all children 15 and under and will be held at the Old Hanes-Owen Brigam Plant in Pineola. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the fishing begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Prizes for the largest fish in categories for ages 12 and up will be awarded at 3:00 p.m. Bait and a limited number of fishing rods will be available. Holston Summer Camp Programs in June and July…

The Holston Summer Camp Program is co-ed, and each week runs from Sunday to Friday, with camps scheduled for the weeks of June 17, June 24, July 8, July 15 and July 22. Each camp features age-appropriate outdoor activities for kids in the following age groups: 8 and 9, 10 and 11, 12 and 13, and 14 to 17. Summer Arts Camp June 18 to 23…

Local students will have the chance to experience a variety of art with local artists, as well as rehearse and star in a theatrical production of The Little Mermaid. The production is designed with parts for all ages, skill and experience levels. The Summer Arts Camp will run from June 18 to 23, and is open to rising first graders through rising tenth graders. Camp hours will be Monday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday from 9:00 a.m. until show time and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until show time. This camp will be held in Hickory from Monday, June 25, to Thursday, June 28. Learning etiquette is the objective of this day camp for girls in grades 5 to 8. Girls will learn by doing: poise and posture, appearance and grooming, introductions, handshakes, first impressions, dining and table etiquette including restaurant etiquette, and manners at home, in public and at friends’ houses. During the four days, girls will experience formal dining and plan a mother/daughter banquet to be held on the final evening of the day camp. Camp Sunshine June 25 to 27, July 9 to 11 or July 16 to 18…

Camp Sunshine is an energetic and exciting time for children aged five and up who have experienced the loss of a loved one. This day camp experience will allow children to deal with grief in an environment that gives them opportunities to express and process their grief in a unique, childlike manner. Trained grief counselors from Hospice, as well as many volunteers from the community, will provide nurturing and support appropriate to children in their losses. The camp will run for three days from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in Watauga, Ashe and Alleghany counties. Turchin Summer Workshop: Drama/Theatre for Young People June 25 to 29…

In conjunction with the Department of Theatre and Dance, the Turchin Center is offering a weeklong workshop focused on creative drama and movement. Classes meet Monday through Friday, June 25 to 29, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Children and teens will be challenged to think creatively and encouraged to work collaboratively while exploring theatre and dance. ASU faculty member Gordon Hensley and his assistants will conduct these lively workshops for young people at the IG Greer Theatre. The cost is $50 for TCVA members and $75 for nonmembers. Rock Dimensions Offers Climbing Camps in June and July…

Rock Dimensions is offering two weeklong climbing camps for youth between the ages of 8 and 18: Monday, June 18, through Friday, June 22, and Monday, July 23, through Friday, July 27, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. each day. The camps are designed for beginners and those who have some basic experience in a gym or outdoors. The camps will take place in the Pisgah National Forest at the Wilson Creek Area and Linville Gorge. Participants will meet at Footsloggers in Boone each morning, and transportation is provided to and from climbing sites. The Town of Beech Mountain’s Summer Day Camp will take place in two sessions: Monday, July 9, to Friday, July 13, and from Monday, July 16, to Friday, July 20. A Kids/Youth Creative Memories Summer Camp will be held Monday, July 9, to Thursday, July 12, from 9:00 a.m. to noon each day. Participants will learn about picture taking, digital photo albums, picfolio albums, custom framing and traditional paper scrapbooking. The workshop fee is $25 plus supplies. Supplies are based on your child's needs and desires. The fee includes daily snacks, games, instruction, use of cropping tools and lots of fun and encouragement! Children age eight and up can attend.
