Just as the Appalachian Skatepark has been packed to the gills almost everyday since it opened, last Saturday’s celebration at the skatepark—Skate-A-Bration 2007—was no different, with more than 100 spectators and competitors taking advantage of the summer sun to skate, eat, dance and celebrate at the park’s first anniversary.

Gus Gordon, son of the Appalachian Skatepark Council’s vice-president, came in third place in the intermediate division. He wowed the crowd with some extra tricks at the end of the run. Photo by Lorrie Tomlinson, www.booneallstars.comWhile Golden Corral served up hot eats and DJ Flo, The Karloffs and D-Lam threw down live beats, skaters in three divisions proved that the Appalachian Skatepark was the place to be in Boone. Spectators lined the sides of the park and filled the three grandstands and all who came walked away happy, well fed and tired.

The Appalachian Skatepark Council—the organization responsible for the creation of the Appalachian Skatepark—would like to thank the following people, businesses and organizations for their support of the Skate-A-Bration 2007 and the skatepark: Dennis O’Neal and Carletta Guy with Golden Corral of Boone; Bauer Cole, the only girl to enter the competition, impressed the judges with her abilities on the course.
