Blue Ridge Parkway Offers Story Telling Workshop July 28
More Workshops Scheduled in August and September
The Blue Ridge Parkway is offering the second of this summer’s series of workshops. Master storyteller Lisa Hollingsworth will present a storytelling workshop on Saturday, July 28, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Mabry Mill.
During the Storytelling Workshop, participants will learn how to choose a story and make it their own, how develop a story with great ingredients, how to make characters come alive and how to use their voice, face and body in telling a story. Hollingsworth’s workshop incorporates creative games, listening to stories, critical analysis and experimenting with telling stories.
The fee for the workshop is $10 for Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway members and $15 for non-members and is limited to 25 participants. The fee covers the cost of materials and supports Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Fees are payable the day of the workshop in cash or check made out Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Advanced reservations are required and can be made by calling the Rocky Knob Visitor Center at 540-745-9662.
The workshop is co-sponsored by Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Inc. The Friends is a nonprofit membership organization that recruits and provides leadership for volunteers who assist with projects on the Parkway such as trail building and maintenance, public programs and viewshed protection. Other workshops taking place this summer include two separate weaving and spinning workshops. The first will be held on Saturday, August 11, in the Doughton Park area at the Brinegar Cabin, milepost 238.5 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The second weaving and spinning workshop is scheduled for Saturday, September 8, at Mabry Mill, milepost 176.1 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
A chair-bottoming workshop will be held at Mabry Mill on Saturday, September 22, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. For more info or to register for any of these workshops, call the Rocky Knob Visitor Center at 540-745-9662.
