Two new board members have been named to the Board of Directors of the National Committee for the New River (NCNR). Henry Doss of Todd and Craig Teller of Hillsvale, Va. will join the 13-member board for a term of three years.
Doss is a former bank executive with First Union and PNC Financial Services with experience in financial services, sales practices for large-scale operational alignment and branding projects. Doss currently sits on the board of General Assembly Cooperation based in West Jefferson and holds a partnership in BenchStrength Solutions, a business strategy and capital sourcing company. Doss has also served as a volunteer leader with the UNC-Charlotte Alumni Board of Governors, Charlotte Habitat for Humanity and the United Negro College Fund, as well as assisting with strategic planning for the NCNR for the last year.
Teller, a retired Army Judge Advocate and Army environmental advocate has most recently served as the Carroll County, Virginia Administrator and will bring valuable experience as an environmental attorney to the NCNR according to NCNR Executive Director George Santucci.
Teller also serves as Adjutant/Treasurer for the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 23 and the Carroll County, Va. Historical Society.
The NCNR was founded in 1974 in response to planned dam construction on the New River that would have flooded approximately 42,000 acres in North Carolina and Virginia displacing 2,700 residents, 893 homes, 42 summer cabins, 23 commercial facilities, five post offices, 15 churches and 12 cemeteries.
Designated as a nonprofit membership organization in 1991, the NCNR works continuously to protect the New River and the addition of Doss and Teller to the board will helpensure that qualified people will continue the fight to preserve the natural wonders the river has to offer.
