Alfred Adams Leadership Awards Luncheon Honors Local Businesses and Individuals

Foscoe Companies, Mountain Lumber Company, Habitat for Humanity Boone ReStore, Mast General Store, Jim Deal and Richard Sparks won awards from the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and the Watauga County JobLink Career Center last Thursday, February 14, at the 9th annual Alfred Adams Leadership Awards Luncheon at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center.

Foscoe Companies—the company responsible for the Echota development in Foscoe—and Mountain Lumber Company, Inc. won awards for Employer of the Year. Co-Owners Mark and Missy Harrill accepted the award on behalf of Foscoe Companies, and Co-Owners Dwight and Sandra Simmons accepted the award on behalf of Mountain Lumber Company, Inc.

Habitat for Humanity Boone ReStore and Mast General Store won awards for being community advocates. ReStore employees accepted the award on behalf of the ReStore, and John and Faye Cooper and Fred and Lisa Martin accepted the award for Mast General Store.

Both Jim Deal and Richard Sparks won Alfred Adams Business Leadership Awards at the event, marking the first time the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and the Watauga County JobLink Career Center have given out two honors in one year. Deal serves as chair of the Watauga County Board of Commissioners, as chair of the ASU Board of Trustees, as a board member of the Appalachian Regional Healthcare System, operates a law office in downtown Boone and served on the Watauga County Board of Education for 8 years. Richard Sparks is the president and CEO of the Appalachian Regional Healthcare System, is currently a member of the Business Advisory Council for the ASU Walker College of Business, serves as a trustee for the Grandfather Home for Children and is on the Wachovia Bank board.
