Bluegrass Greats IIIrd Tyme Out Perform at Valdese Old Rock School Saturday
Top-notch award-winning bluegrass outfit IIIrd Tyme Out will make their way to Valdese for an appearance at the Old Rock School this Saturday, March 1. The show will start at 7:30 p.m.
Success for IIIrd Tyme Out was nearly an overnight occurrence for the group after forming in 1991. Founding member Russell Moore (guitar), along with everyone else in the group, created a new tradition in modern bluegrass music. Rounding out the current incarnation of IIIrd Tyme Out are Steve Dilling on banjo, Wayne Benson on mandolin, Justen Haynes on fiddle, Edgar Loudermilk on bass and their excellent sound technician, Donnie Carver.
As the saying goes, “The proof is in the pudding”, and there is no greater proof of the band’s incredible talent than their garnering seven consecutive IBMA Vocal Group of the Year awards—1994, 1995, 1996, 1997,1998,1999, and most recently, 2000. A capella renditions of many of the band’s songs can rarely be matched and IIIrd Tyme Out’s superb instrumentation provides even more quality sound to the rich vocal blends.
Where did the band’s unique name have its origin? The initial formation of the band was the third time out for founding members Deaton and Moore, and consequently, the third professional bluegrass band association for each. The third time undoubtedly proved to be a charm for the talented artists.
