Boone Pride To Offer First Scholarship
Boone Pride is pleased to announce its first annual scholarship of $1,500 for the upcoming 2008-09 academic year. The award is intended to recognize and affirm High Country students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersexed and queer (LGBTIQ) or allies.
The purpose of the scholarship is to complement academic experiences by providing financial support for students in the LGBTIQ community; to encourage continuing education for self-identified LGBTIQ youth; and to foster a positive image of LGBTIQ people in society. The Boone Pride award committee welcomes applications through March 31, 2008.
Please note the following eligibility requirements:
- Open to any students seeking post-secondary education, Associate's or technical degrees
- Must be a resident of Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes or Yancey counties
- Must submit an application with required supporting materials by March 31.
