March at the Hayes

Story by Anna Oakes

The Hayes Performing Arts Center—the High Country’s newest entertainment venue—is one more reason not to drive off the mountain for high quality concerts and shows. The Blowing Rock facility has scheduled a whole list of entertainment options for the month of March—ranging from professional theatre to guitar and fiddle to gospel music to an Emmy Award winner.

Appalachian State’s Performing Arts Series won’t have another performance until April, and the High Country’s spring events are still a couple of months away. Luckily, the Hayes Center is filling in the gaps.

This Saturday, March 1, the Blowing Rock Stage Company launches a new program, Cabin Fever Theatre—a chance for folks to enjoy snacks and drinks around a table while enjoying for short plays. Next comes acoustic guitar master Alex de Grassi on Saturday, March 8, and actor Gary Lee Smith portrays legendary Sen. Sam J. Ervin, Jr. in Senator Sam on Friday, March 14. Mike Cross follows on fiddle and guitar on Saturday, March 15. And the next week features shows by the ASU Gospel Choir and TV and film star Anthony Zerbe, on March 20 and 21, respectively.

Don’t waste those precious $3 gallons of gas—enjoy world-class entertainment locally!
