Salvation Army Thrift Store Grand Opening Saturday
A grand opening celebration for the Salvation Army’s new Family Thrift Store in Boone will be held Saturday, March 8. The store has moved from its old location on Blowing Rock Road to 220 Postal Street beside K-Mart and behind the post office on Blowing Rock Road. New store hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
On grand opening day, a Salvation Army canteen vehicle will serve free hot dogs, chips and drinks beginning at 1:00 p.m. Major Kent Davis, Salvation Army Corps officer from Hickory, and local dignitaries will on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Discount coupons will be available for use at the store, and customers will receive a free gift while supplies last.
“The Salvation Army is committed to ‘doing the most good in the High Country,’ and we are excited about our new facilities,” said Davis. “Funds raised through our Family Store and donations made during our Red Kettle Campaign help support the work of the Salvation Army in the area.”
Jerry Walker, chair of the local Salvation Army Service Unit, noted that the new location will provide easier and more convenient access for donation drop-offs and for thrift store shoppers. It will also provide office space for a Salvation Army social worker, a position the Walker expects to be filled “in the near future.”
Walker invite the public to come out on Saturday to see the new facilities and help celebrate the expanded services of the Salvation Army in the High Country.
