Programs for Kids and Parents at The Children’s Playhouse

The Children’s Playhouse, the High Country’s only indoor/outdoor play space for families, has announced its spring lineup of programs for kids and adults. All programs are offered at The Children’s Playhouse.

Situated in a renovated house at 400 Tracy Circle near downtown Boone, The Children’s Playhouse boasts a number of play areas including an art room, dress up area, puppet theater, loft, pretend kitchen, block play area, train table, indoor Romp and Stomp, and music classroom—all tucked into an intimate, child-friendly space.

Admission to The Children’s Playhouse is $5 per person. A one year Playhouse Passport Membership for $100 includes unlimited family admission to The Playhouse and more than 150 children’s museums nationwide. Scholarship memberships are available for families that meet income guidelines. The Children’s Playhouse is a High Country United Way agency.

Programs for Parents and Caregivers

As part of its mission to support parents, The Children’s Playhouse provides parenting classes and workshops, as well as a large lending library of resource books and toys. Babysitting is provided during longer classes. All parent programs are free to parents or caregivers.

Parenting with Love and Logic March 18 to April 22

Taught by Roberta Yates, this six-week class on Tuesdays from March 18 to April 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. teaches practical strategies for raising responsible kids who are fun to be around. Babysitting is provided for up to 12 children. The class is free, but registration is required.

Snack Attack! March 19

Learn creative, fun, and easy snack recipes that encourage kids to eat fruit and vegetables at the Snack Attack! class on Wednesday, March 19, at 10:15 a.m. Snacks will be peanut-free, and dairy-free options will be available. A limited supply of recipe books and food bags will be given away. Nicole Lamonica, an Appalachian State University student, is conducting the class as a community event project for her community nutrition class.

Infant & Child CPR April 23

On Wednesday, April 23, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., learn a valuable skill to protect your children. Taught by Lindsey Stovall from the Birthing Center Education office at Watauga Medical Center, this class will cover CPR for both infants and children. The free class is limited to eight adults. Babysitting is provided, but advance registration is required.

Breastfeeding Q&A May 8 and 9

On Thursday, May 8, and Friday, May 9, at 10:30 a.m., bring your questions and concerns about nursing to this talk with a lactation educator.

Your Child’s Development June 19

Do you have questions about how your child is developing? If you need help, where do you turn? Delores Wilder of Watauga County Schools and the Local Interagency Coordinating Council (LICC) will be available to answer questions about your child's development and the resources available to families in our community on Thursday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m.

Programs for Kids

The Children's Playhouse offers lively, affordable music classes for preschoolers and fun, On the Spot workshops for kids.

Certified instructor Alison Moser teaches all Musikgarten classes. She uses developmentally appropriate songs, games, movement and instruments.

From sing-alongs to story hours, the On the Spot programs offer drop-in fun that is free to members or with paid admission to The Children’s Playhouse.

Sing-Along with Mr. Jack March 20

This On the Spot program features Mr. Jack, a retired music teacher, who will share childhood favorites on the piano, guitar, and violin. The program is at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 20.

Sparkling Storytime with Mrs B. April 9

This On the Spot program features children’s librarian Carol Bollini with a fun-filled storytime for kids age 2 and up at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9.

Pet Paws with Friends for Life April 10

During this On the Spot program, children will have the opportunity to pet a calm adult dog and learn about responsible pet ownership from the group Friends for Life at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 10.

Cycle of Seasons May 1 to June 5

This Musikgarten class for children ages 3 to 5 meets from 9:30 to 10:10 a.m. on Thursdays from May 1 to June 5. The fee for this six-week, 40-minute class is $48 for members and $60 for nonmembers.

Family Music for Toddlers May 1 to June 5

This Musikgarten class for children ages 18 months to 2 years meets from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursdays from May 1 to June 5. The cost is $36 for members and $48 for nonmembers.

Family Music for Babies May 2 to June 6

This Musikgarten class for newborns to children 18 months old meets from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. on Fridays from May 2 to June 6. The cost is $36 for members and $48 for nonmembers.
