Cellist and Pianist Guest Recital April 3

The Hayes School of Music will present a guest recital by cellist David Gee and pianist Lynne Mackey on Thursday, April 3, at 8:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Broyhill Music Center. The performance is free and the public is invited to attend.

Among the works the duo will perform will be gems of the repertoire by Fauré, Bazelaire and Beethoven. Additionally, the duo will perform a piece recently written for them by Tim Mainland and works by Manuel de Falla and Astor Piazzolla.

The Gee-Mackey duo has performed in the United States, Europe and Africa. They recently returned from a tour of Spain and Morocco where they presented new works of American composers, and listeners heard their performances on the English language radio of the Costa del Sol.

Gee has taught at Yale University, The University of North Carolina, Coastal Carolina University and the University of Memphis. He has also given master classes throughout Andalusia and toured with the Boccherini Quartet. Gee graduated from Purchase College where he received The President’s Award for outstanding undergraduate achievement and was an Ellen Battel Stoeckel scholar while at Yale. He plays a cello made by Antonius Guadagnini, currently on loan from The Holm Foundation.

Mackey is a graduate of The Juilliard School, the Eastman School of Music and the University of Michigan. She has appeared with the Grand Rapids Symphony, the Flint Symphony and the Lynchburg Symphony. Mackey received an Appalachian College Association Fellowship for a residency at the University of Virginia where she focused on works of contemporary composers. She currently teaches at Eastern Mennonite University, the University of Mary Washington and Mary Baldwin College.
