On Saturday, April 12, local culinary masters will once again bring their talents to the Broyhill Inn for the ninth annual Salute to High Country Chefs. For the rest of us, it’s a long-awaited opportunity to stay out of the kitchen and leave dinner to the experts.
Hosted by the High Country Chefs and Cooks Association (HCCCA) and the local chapter of the American Culinary Federation (ACF), the event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Auction items include original works of art, wine and several items related to the culinary field.
Dinner will be served at 7:15 and will showcase the menus of several area restaurants including Casa Rustica, Vidalia, Canyons and many others. Food will be served buffet-style, allowing chefs the opportunity to display their specialties and giving guests the opportunity to sample a wide range of delicious, unexpected flavors.
Proceeds from the event will fund upcoming HCCCA events, including education and scholarship programs for local high school students pursuing the culinary arts. The HCCCA donates directly to Avery County High School and students participating in the Caldwell Community College culinary program.
Additionally, funds will support the culinary program at Asheville-Buncombe Technical College. Students in that program have been competitive in the national team competitions hosted by the ACF every year, winning first place at the 2007 competition in Orlando, Fla.
