Inaugural Cove Creek Trout Fishing Tournament April 5
“You get a line and I’ll get a pole, honey. You get a line and I’ll get a pole, babe. And we’ll all go down to the fishing hole.”
Which hole? The ole fishing hole on Cove Creek behind Henson Chapel in Amantha on Saturday, April 5, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
That’s when and where the folks at Henson Chapel will conduct the first trout fishing contest for one and all in western Watauga County. It’s almost free—just $1 per pole to participate. Better yet, the winner in each category of contestants will win $100. And the lucky person who catches the largest fish of the day can win another $100.
The emphasis is on youth and adults sharing the joy of another spring and the beginning of fishing season. The categories for entrants are 2 to 9 years, 10 to 15 years and 16 to 100 years.
The action continues until 4:00 p.m. Prizewinners will be announced around 4:30 p.m. on the same day. You must be present to win.
Registration will take place onsite. Youth aged 2 to 17 must have a guardian countersign their entry forms. If you are 16 or older, you must have a valid NC fishing license and a trout stamp.
If you are going to be around at lunchtime, you may want to bring a sack lunch. Or if you like hot dogs, plenty of them will be available for a small price.
Ah! The grass is turning green, the fruit trees are in bloom and new ground is being plowed. And yes! The fish are biting. Come on, Dad. Let’s go fishing!
