Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast April 5

Story by Anna Oakes

The 23rd annual Community Pancake Breakfast, a Kiwanis Club of Boone fundraiser, takes place on Saturday, April 5, from 7:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the Watauga High School cafeteria. Come for an all-you-can-eat buffet of pancakes, bacon, sausage, coffee, milk and juice.

The annual pancake breakfast is one of the largest fundraisers for the Kiwanis Club, an organization that sponsors a number of programs for children, especially children ages 0 to 6. Last year, the breakfast served hundreds of people and raised about $5,000, coordinator George Brudzinski said.

“Our Kiwanians specialize in mixing the batter and making the pancakes,” he said. “They’ve got it down pat.”

Additionally, Mountain Alliance will have a silent auction in the lower level of the cafeteria from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Mountain Alliance is a program for students designed to “grow leaders through service, adventure and community.”

“We’ve been doing this in conjunction for the last four years, and we benefit both organizations,” Brudzinski said. “We always expect a crowd. It’s a great networking and social event.”

The Kiwanis Club of Boone received its charter in 1973.

Tickets to the breakfast are $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. To purchase tickets, call Evelyn Johnson at 828-264-8784.
