High Country United Way Fulfills Campaign Goal
The United Way met its 2007-08 goal of raising $600,000 even before the official end of the campaign on March 31. All the money will be distributed locally, in accordance with the organization’s mission.
The United Way strives to provide “human and financial resources to improve the quality of life for all in Avery and Watauga counties,” and the annual campaign raises money to be distributed to 25 local partner agencies that target various aspects of area residents’ well-being—including hunger, homelessness, crisis situations and children’s programs. Third Annual Blue Ridge Food & Wine Festival April 10 to 13
The third annual Blue Ridge Food & Wine Festival is set for Thursday to Sunday, April 10 to 13, in Blowing Rock. Sponsored by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce, the event features an amateur winemaking competition, cooking classes, vintners’ dinners, wine tastings, seminars and a chef’s challenge.
