Anticipating Spring at Carlton Gallery

The transition from winter’s stillness, serenity and gray palette to spring’s green grass, beautiful shrubs and flowers, along with renewed energy and spirit, is slowly coming to the High Country. Carlton Gallery is fortunate to exhibit oils on canvas by some of the gallery’s landscape artists who capture the natural beauty of the surrounding area.

Jane Desonier received her B.A. in fine arts from the University of New Orleans and also studied at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. This oil on linen is entitled In the Pink.New oils on canvas by landscape artist Jane Desonier brighten the gallery’s walls. After raising her four children, Desonier became an artist. She received her B.A. in fine arts from the University of New Orleans. She also studied at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, an institution devoted to traditional art methods. In addition to winning numerous awards, including two Grumbacher Gold Medallions for Best of Show, Desonier’s artwork is in many collections.

Landscape painter Leroy Nichols, Jr. received formal training at the Ringling School of Art in Florida. Nichol’s serene landscapes capture his interpretation of the environment while allowing the viewer’s unique view of that environment. He likes to paint on location where he feels one with the surroundings. Nichols landscape oils on canvas are in public and private collections all over the United States.

Jossie Foxx Nichols paints miniature landscapes, oils on canvas of rural mountain scenes, old barns and covered bridges. After retiring from a career in her private preschool, The Children’s Garden, Nichols is now a full-time artist. She was inspired to paint from her artist husband’s workshops and demonstrations at the Art Studio in Fontana Dam, N.C.

Carlton Gallery is located 10 miles south of Boone and 7 miles north of Linville on Highway 105. Celebrating its 26th year, the gallery’s winter hours are 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
