Fans of the Banff Mountain Film Festival are anticipating the arrival of the world tour at ASU this Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12.
A popular and critically acclaimed international film event, the Banff Mountain Film Festival—hosted by ASU Outdoor Programs—takes place at Farthing Auditorium. This year is the 12th anniversary of Banff Film Festival screenings in Boone, a venue that has become one of the largest screenings in North America.
New this year, and in conjunction with the Banff Mountain Film Festival, ASU Outdoor Programs and the APPS Film Council will offer an Adventure Film Production Workshop in the Greenbrier Theater in the ASU Student Union this Friday, April 11, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The workshop will feature award-winning filmmaker Jason Berry from Gripped Films. Berry will give a lecture, incorporating film clips from previous projects, on many topics ranging from shot selection, production, post-production, editing, character development and other topics related to film production with a focus on outdoor adventure environments. The workshop is free and open to the first 75 people.
“It is really exciting to bring in one of the filmmakers from Banff to add a new dimension to the film festival this year,” said Rich Campbell, associate director for ASU Outdoor Programs. “We hope to inspire people through the film festival in many ways, including encouraging people to document their own interpretation of mountain adventure, culture and the environment through their own filmmaking. This workshop should give individuals some of the tools to follow that interest or passion.”
Berry will also present the feature-length film on Friday night at Banff, 24 Solo, a film he directed that follows the gut-wrenching story of Chris Eatough on his quest for a seventh world title in the unforgiving discipline of 24-hour solo mountain-bike racing.

ASU Outdoor Programs is the presenter of this event and Footsloggers Outdoor and Travel Outfitters is the leading sponsor. APPS Film Council is a co-sponsor of the Adventure Film Production Workshop.
