The seniors of Appalachian State University’s art program showcase the products of their studies during the Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Studio Exhibition, showing Wednesday, April 30, through Friday, May 9, at the Catherine J. Smith Gallery at Farthing Auditorium.
A reception for the exhibition will be held on Friday, May 9, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Catherine J. Smith Gallery.
The artists and soon-to-be-graduates participating in the exhibition are Jennifer Michael,
Ryan F. Batten, George Helms, Michael Keating, Erin Marie Souther, Pamela Raimo and Jennifer Livingston.
“This is one of their final experiences,” said Jody Servon, art professor at ASU. The size and nature of the works—from jewelry to large-scale pieces—determine how many pieces each student will show, she said.
Art students spend a year developing projects for the exhibition, continually working with faculty to create and select pieces for the show.
“It’s always a negotiation because it’s a group show,” Servon said. “It’s a committee process with the artist—they have so much say with what goes into it.”
Farthing Auditorium is located at 733 Rivers Street on the ASU campus. Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more info, call 828-262-7338.
