Playhouse Baby Fair and Consignment Sale
Friday and Saturday

Story by Anna Oakes

While their parents are busy shopping for bargains, kids can enjoy activities such as dress-up at the Playhouse Baby Fair and Consignment Sale this Saturday. The High Country is on the brink of yard sale season, and the thrifty shopper is sure to enjoy the Playhouse Baby Fair and Consignment Sale this Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19, at the National Guard Armory in Boone.

In addition to the bargains, a major part of the event is the third annual Playhouse Baby and Parenting Fair, presented by the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation. It includes information booths by local service agencies, children’s activities, a silent auction, breakfast and lunch, a baby race and more.

The event begins with the Early Bird Sale on Friday, April 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. For the $5 admission price, you’ll have the best selection of children’s clothes, household items, furniture, equipment and more to pick from.

The main event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19. The consignment and rummage sale will again be open, with bargain bags and half-price consignment from noon to 1:00 p.m. The Children’s Playhouse will serve a continental breakfast and a pizza lunch.

The Playhouse is working with Gardens for Humanity to ensure the baby fair and sale is a zero waste event—most of the trash will be either composted or recycled.

Children’s activities include an airwalk, face painting, bubbles, a tap dancing demonstration, dress-up, art activities, contests and a baby race.

“We will have two races, one for crawling babies and one for toddlers up to 20 months,” Playhouse Executive Director Kathy Parham said in a press release. The races were a big hit last year, although Parham recalls that some of the babies decided to turn around and head back to mom just a few feet short of the finish line. “It was a hoot!” she said.

The armory is located at 274 Hunting Hills Lane in Boone, off State Farm Road.

All proceeds benefit The Children’s Playhouse, a nonprofit organization that offers affordable arts programs for children as well as low-cost parenting classes and workshops. The Children’s Playhouse is located at 400 Tracy Circle in Boone.
