Watauga High School will host Advisory Night for rising ninth graders and their parents from 5:15 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, at the high school. Advisory night is a time for each member of next year’s freshman class to meet the school advisor who will work with them throughout their time at the high school. Students and parents will receive a wealth of important high school information during Advisory Night.
Students and parents will be able to complete some of the paperwork needed for the transition to high school and students can have their pictures taken for the student information program. Advisory Night also provides the opportunity to plan for bus transportation, find out about the school’s parent involvement organization (FRIENDS), learn about student clubs at the high school and view a Welcome to Watauga video to introduce students and parents to some of the names and faces they will need to know at the high school.
Advisory Night will begin with 30-minute advisory meetings for all rising freshman. Students have been notified who their advisor will be and what classroom they should report to for their advisory meeting. Assistance will be available for students and parents who cannot remember their advisor’s name or the room where their advisory meeting will be held.
Following the advisory meetings, students will report to the lobby to have their photo taken. After the photo, students and parents can go to the school cafeteria to obtain information on driver’s education, bus transportation and school clubs and organizations.
Rising freshman and their parents will also want to mark their calendars for Freshmen Orientation that takes place at the high school on Tuesday, August 5, two days before the first day of school. Information about Freshman Orientation will be sent to students at home over the summer.
